New paradigm: From low-fat diet to low carbohydrate diet

For decades now, we have been recommended to consume low-fat diets and instead par-take high carbohydrate diets so as to be on the safe side as far as cardiovascular diseases are concerned and also for a healthy living. The notion that consumption of fatty foods, especially saturated fats contributed significantly to weight gain and subsequent cardiovascular complications is now on the exit as recent clinical studies where individuals and their diets were  assessed and analyzed over a period of one year reveals that one can reduce cardiovascular complications by eating low carbohydrate diet and more of dietary fats.

        Why low carbohydrate?

Consumption of low carbohydrate has been found to be beneficial in a number of ways in the quest for a healthy diet as seen in authority nutrition’s web. Harmful fats that cause metabolic complications are believed to be around the abdominal cavity. By consuming low carbohydrate diet, one can lose a significant percentage of these fats. To those who want to lose weight quickly, intake of low carbohydrate is ideal as it leads to more weight loss in the first six months compared to intake of low dietary fats.

Intake of low carbohydrate results to an increased level of High Density Lipoprotein (HDL) in the blood vessels as opposed to Low Density Lipoprotein (LDL). This is regarded as  a “good’’ cholesterol. People with LDL have a higher chance of suffering from heart attacks compared to people with HDL. Low carbohydrate intake is regarded as very effective in the treatment and even elimination of diabetes II because it helps in the reduction of blood sugar as well as insulin levels.

Low Carbohydrate Intake a cure for children suffering from epilepsy

The brain is usually in dire need of glucose. With little consumption of carbohydrate, the brain is able burn ketones. The ketogenic diet has been found to be therapeutic for a lot of brain disorders as well as a treatment of epilepsy in children who never responds to drug treatment.
